CAS Orients Freshmen

                Spearheaded by its Dean, Dr. Rosemarie P. Prudente and Associate Dean, Dr. Alejo P. Biton, the College of Arts and Sciences conducted an orientation to its first year students for this academic year 2014-2015 on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.

                The CAS faculty members as well as its staff were formally introduced by their department heads starting with the Math Department, followed by the Language, Social Sciences, Science, PE  and Computer Departments.

                Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut, OIC to the Office of the President, graced the event and gave an inspiring message to the students. As an educator, he advised them to always bear in mind the essence of coming to school.

                The important offices and services of the College were likewise presented during the orientation. Dr. Susan Marie R. de la Cruz of the Office of Student Affairs oriented the students on the different scholarship programs and grants that may be able to help them pursue a tuition free Bachelor’s Degree.On the other hand, Dr. Leah P. Montinola of the College Registrar’s Office, gave reminders to the students regarding failing grades, incomplete, shifting of courses and other services pertaining to the students’ records. The College Librarian, Dr.Nida T. Gomez introduced the services and the rules of the College Library. To assist the students in their medical needs, Dr.Zenaida Java explained some important points they have to follow in medical check up, acquiring medical certificates or excuse slips in times of sickness. Similarly, the dental services were discussed by Dr. Edna Cedonio. She emphasized that all dental services provided by the school are free but should be scheduled ahead of time to accommodate everyone. In addition to the services given by WVCST, Prof. Lynn Marquelencia of the Student Guidance Services of the College of Arts and Sciences, cordially encouraged the students to come to her office and talk about their concerns and problems so they can help them.

                The Incumbent members of the student council of the College of Arts and Sciences also took the stage and urge the freshmen to participate in the next election and be a part of the council.

                The orientation program of the College of Arts and Sciences were conducted in two sessions to accommodate all their first year students at the EdTechCenter.
